Dear All STARians Batch 73 (Form5),
During our most recent weekend trip to Ipoh to attend STAR Annual Sports Day (those who went from our batch were Jabbar Abdullah, Mohammed Salleh, Omar Abdullah, Rostam Wahidin, Wan Husin and myself), there was a suggestion that we arrange our 73 Batch reunion (or even a family gathering like we had in Melaka in Dec 2008) coinciding with the STAR Old Boys Weekend (OBW) which is planned in July 2010. The proposal is for our batch (to decide with or without our respective family members) to put up somewhere in or very close to Ipoh. We hope to hear from you on your proposed place. The programme can be finalized in due course. The idea is fior us (and our family members) to be housed in the chosen place by Friday. We have our Batch programme the Friday evening. On Saturday we can attend the OBW programme at STAR and attended the OBW dinner (most likely at STAR compound/padang). On Sunday we continue with our Batch's programme till afternoon.
Your idea, comments & suggestions are required.
Note that recently an ex-Exxon-Mobil guy gave me the contact numbers for MUSADEK MUSALI: Office 03-20532109 mobile: 0193242262, but I have not managed to get his return call yet.
By the way, I may have to relinquished my '73 Batch Coordinator's role very soon as I will most probably be accepting a job offer with one of the foreign Oil Companies based in Miri Sarawak on a one-year contract as GM of Admin & Services. The appointment starts 1st April 2010. I will update all once this is finalized & confirmed.

Dear Omar Suhaimi, congratulation for being offered the job and good luck.
ReplyDeleteDear Omasuha,
ReplyDeleteCongratulation and best of luck.We dont like to miss you for the reunion and the OBW.So do your best to attend. Looking forward to meeting you there.
Dear All,
ReplyDeleteSo far, the response via e-mail that I have received on interest to attend the planned re-union include Hj Look Keman, Ramlan Malek & Datuk Mohd Azlan Hashim.
On the new appointment, it is something that I cannot afford to miss. I am still awaiting the letter of appoitment though confirmation has been communicated via e-mail. It will be with Nippon Oil Explorations. Though I will be based in Miri, I will travel Miri-KL back-and-forth quite a bit as its corporate HQ is in KL and I will also have regular meetings with Petronas. As my family will stay put at Bukit Mahkota, I will also come back at least one or two weekends every month (kena long-term bookings on Air Asia). In view of this, we will need to agree on who shall take the lead and coordinate this planned reunion. Must be someone who has the interest and of course the time to chase everybody!!!!. I will continue to follow up via sms and e-mails.
Regards,
Omar suhaimi
Dear All,
ReplyDeleteRefer my main text on the reunion, please note that the last re-union in Melaka (aFamosa Resort) was held in Dec 2007 (not 2008) - which was arranged to coincide with the khenduri at Rostam's kampung. We did have a swell time then.
This time around we will await the actual dates when the Old Boys Weekend will be held. Someone has suggested that our batch reunion be held at the Lost World of Tambun (or something like that). We hope our friends in Ipoh i.e., Fadhil Hassan, Norizan Tan Sali and Mohd Ansor Ahmad can come up with their recommendation. I propose that we appoint one of them Ipoh-based guys to be the Organizing Chairman. Organizing members can be from others who are willing, ready and able (especially those based in Klang Valley and the northern states of Perak, Penang, Kedah & Perlis). To start the ball rolling, I would like to suggest that we collect from each member a joining fee of RM 200 each. Those generous buddies from our batch can sponsor any higher amount they wish to.
Regards,
Omar Suhaimi
Dear Omar Suhaimi,
ReplyDeleteSince our reunion coincides with the OBW it is better that we put up somewhere in Ipoh where the possibility of bumping into the rest of the old boys is great.
Dear all,
ReplyDeleteWe should invite views from others. The original idea, mooted by Jabbar during our recent journey to Ipoh, is to orgaize a Batch 73 get-together to mark the achievement of reaching 55, the normal formal retirement age for most of us. The only exception is perhaps Dato Azlan Hashim whose 55th birthday will not be in the year 2010 but this does not disqualify him to join the reunion. In fact dato Azlan is amongst the firt who gave a positive response to this event.
It can also be organized as some sort of a "Family Day" if members bring their respective family along. The last such occassion was in Dec 2007 when Rostam held his kenduri in Melaka and for those who camped in at AFamosa really had a good time (with or without family members). Now the OBW is a good "excuse" to entice our batch to get-together again. Of course our batch gathering should be held in or anywhere nearby Ipoh Ciyy which is within 30-min drive from STAR.
Appreciate comments/views from others as interest to participate is bulding up and we would like as many from our batch join in.
Regards,
OS.
